  • Mentored by Ralph A. DeFronzo in the 90s, Andrea Giaccari is presently Associate Professor of Endocrinology and a Senior Diabetologist; He is the head of the Center for Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases of the Fondazione Policlinico Agostino Gemelli, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC),
  • The largest Italian Hospital. He has a substantial track record as Principal Investigator in diabetes-focused Clinical Trials and acts as senior adviser to the European Medicine Agency (EMA) for Diabetes matters.
  • Andrea takes active part in the stakeholders’ dialogue in the Diabetes scientific community as a past-member of the Executive Council of the Italian Diabetes Society and member of the Executive Board and Chief of the Scientific Committee of the Diabetes Research Foundation;
  • He is also involved in many social activities promoting Diabetes advocacy and knowledge in Italy and actively contributed to the creation of the “World Diabetes Day” in Italy.
  • He serves as grant reviewer for many foundations, including the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes and the European Commission (through the Innovative Medicines Initiative – JU). He is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Nutrition Metabolism and Cardiovascular Disease (IF 3.6).

  • Prof. Salah Abusnana is a Medical degree graduate from Libya.
  • After his initial fellowship, he moved to UK where he got his MRCP (Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians).
  • He was awarded MSc in Neuroendocrinology in 1996 at Imperial College, University of London.
  • He continued his clinical and academic work at Hammersmith Hospital where he was granted PhD by year 2001.
  • Prof. Salah was also granted CCST in Diabetes and Endocrinology (certificate of completion of specialist training) and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), UK.
